NORTH CONWAY – Mud Bowl, the championships of mud football, splashes off Friday, Sept. 5, at Steve Eastman Memorial Field at Hog Coliseum behind the North Conway Community Center, with six games beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing on the hour through Game 6 at 3 p.m.
Friday’s games are to be followed by a Mud Bowl Bash open to the community from 6-10 p.m. at the parking lot of the North Conway Community Center. That event will feature a Mud Bowl Hall of Fame induction ceremony, food trucks and entertainment by musical comedian Bucky Lewis. The event is free of admission and is open to all ages, according to NCCC director and Mud Bowl co-chair Phil Ouellette.
Set for Sept. 5-7, Mud Bowl features 12 teams from throughout New England competing in the 20-game, double-elimination tournament, with proceeds benefiting the North Conway Community Center, Vaughan Learning Center and Carroll County Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
The Tournament of Mud Parade returns Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Friday’s schedule:
Game 1: 10 a.m.: 2005 champion North Shore Mud Sharks vs. Jack’s Predators;
Game 2: 11 a.m.: Rhode Island Muckaneers vs. Carrabassett Valley Rats;
Game 3: 12 p.m.: 22-time champion Muddas Football Club vs. eight-time champion Nashua Mud Gumbys;
Game 4: Four-time champion North Country Mud Crocs vs. defending champion Mud Heroes;
Game 5: 2 p.m.: 2001 champion N.H. Mudcats vs. North Conway Mud Things; and
Game 6: 3 p.m.: Rowley Mud Ducks vs. North Conway Hogs.
This year’s Mud Bowl “Get Muddy with Miller Lite” theme honors longtime event sponsors Miller Lite.
